January 29, 2003 -- Information architects and user experience professionals are invited to participate in a one-day seminar covering the toughest problems faced by the designers of today's information systems.

The Leadership Seminar takes place on March 21, 2003, in conjunction with the ASIS&T Information Architecture Summit in Portland, Oregon. The Asilomar Institute for Information Architecture (AIfIA) is hosting the seminar. AIfIA is a nonprofit organization dedicated to advancing the collective understanding of how to design and build better information systems and knowledge networks.

"This session will challenge participants' thinking about content management, user research, and the future of the web," said Peter Morville, a speaker at the seminar and an AIfIA board member. "Our goal is to bring together information architecture leaders from a diverse blend of organizations, and provide a unique opportunity to collectively tackle major problems and share best practices. This promises to be an excellent forum for learning and networking."

Other speakers include Louis Rosenfeld (co-author of Information Architecture for the World Wide Web), Victor Lombardi (experience lead and information architect at Razorfish), (Karen McGrane, director of information architecture at Razorfish), and Rashmi Sinha (an independent consultant and lecturer at UC Berkeley).

Leadership Seminar topics will cover a range of practical problems:

  • Strategy, Architecture and Tomorrow's Web
  • The (Unfulfilled) Promise of Content Management Systems
  • Building Bridges Between Practice and Research
  • Selling Information Architecture

Seminar registration will be limited to 50 participants to help ensure a lively, interactive session. Participants who register before February 22 will pay the early-bird rate of $US 500. After February 22, the cost rises to $US 575.

The American Society for Information Science and Technology (ASIT&T) is holding its fourth Information Architecture Summit, March 21 to 23, 2003, in Portland, Oregon. "Making Connections" is the theme of this year's summit. Stewart Brand, author of How Buildings Learn, will give the keynote address.
